The festival MULF, built around the Muhos environment, will be held for the sixth time on Friday 28.8.2026 from 6pm to11pm at the Nature Dream Days campsite in Montta, Muhos.
MULF – Muhos Lifestyle Festival brings social issues into focus through artistic means. In previous years, the conceptual total work of art has explored, among other themes, middle-class family life and ordinariness, roots, constructions of home and family, and destruction within the domestic sphere. MULF travels through the villages of Muhos, and this year it arrives in Montta.
MULF VI asks what water needs its power for and who else uses it. What remains of water’s own power once it has been harnessed? We are unable to dismantle everything we have built, because we depend on it. How can we live with a limited reality and a fractured world?

The festival also celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Northern Opera Company. MULF VI is part of the Flow of Events weekend organized by the municipalities along the Oulujoki River, as well as Muhos Arts Night.

Workshops
MULF’s Creature Factory and a book exhibition related to hydropower plants will spread to the Muhos Cultural Centre in August, where you can also splash into the stream and shape, record, or write a poem to the Oulujoki River for your own Creature!
What does a Creature look like that lives in the waters and shores of the Stream of Stories? And what does it want to say, how does it sound? Does the Creature hear turbines grinding in its ears, or the ringing of clean water? The Creature may live in the waters now, or it may have swum to us from the past.

The festival takes place both outdoors and indoors between 18:00 and 23:00. Please dress according to the weather.

Koivu ja tähti Cultural Centre, from where buses depart to the event site, is located near Muhos railway station. Muhos can be reached by train from both Kajaani and Oulu. Please check current timetables on the VR website. Bus services from Oulu can be found on the Oulu Region Transport website.

Guidelines for shared comfort
Don’t assume. It is natural to make assumptions about other people, but we strive to be aware of our own presuppositions and we are open to different kinds of topics and people. We don’t define experiences on behalf of anyone else and we don’t generalize our own experiences to others. We don’t make assumptions about anyone’s sexuality, gender, nationality, religion, values, socioeconomic background, health, appearance or ability to function, but we respect everyone’s right to self-determination.
Don’t degrade. We don’t degrade or embarrass anyone by their externals. We treat others as we would like to be treated.
Don’t reproduce. We don’t reproduce racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, or ableist stereotypes in our speech, actions, or behavior. We strive to use language that doesn’t exclude anyone.
Intervene. If we witness any offensive behavior, we will not remain silent, but we will intervene.
Respect. We respect other people’s physical, mental, and emotional personal space. We remember that we cannot know the boundaries of one without asking from them and we don’t touch the other without permission. If necessary, we ask for space for ourselves as well.
Give space. We make sure everyone has space to participate in the discussion and we treat sensitive topics with respect.
Give and receive feedback. Everyone is allowed to give appropriate and constructive feedback from inappropriate treatment. If someone gives you feedback on your actions, please listen to the feedback provider. We are open to the feedback we receive and we will take the feedback into account in our own activities in the future.
If you experience harassment or other inappropriate behaviour
If you experience an uncomfortable situation, please bring it up immediately by informing the festival staff, harassment contact persons, or the event organiser so that we can consider the best way to resolve the situation. The harassment contact person will be introduced at the event and can be identified by a blue Nocpok badge.
