
Pyhäkoski – a polyphony of concrete and waterbodies
Heavy boots crunch on the red granite of the Oulujoki riverbed. The warm September noon is not palpable from the dark belly of the Pyhäkoski hydropower plant, a massive entity of concrete and humming turbines. Its inception in 1951 marks a tipping point in the life course of the river and its surroundings, dividing it inevitably in a time ‘before’ and ‘after’.
