Jenni Kinnunen , M.A. and artistic director is the founder of the Northern Opera Company.
She studied Literature, Art History and Film Studies at the University of Oulu where she graduated in 2010. She finished her Bachelor of Culture and Media degree in 2014. She likes to work with text, music, sound and multiple materials while deconstructing and questioning both her and the audiendence’s concepts of opera. Her style invites extensity, dialogue between the high and the low, and sensitive transgression.
Her latest works include i.a. a script for children music play, three site-specific environmental art projects in Lemmenpolku nature trail in Muhos, Finland, an experimental opera film, a performance gallery in a private home and a music monologue. Ms. Kinnunen has written lyrics and librettos for several composers and her essays appeared in the Northern Finland’s most widely circulated newspaper Kaleva during years 2011–2018.
Ms. Kinnunen has received grants from the Arts Promotion Centre Finland, the Sibelius Fund, the Finnish Cultural Foundation, and the Arts Council of Northern Ostrobothnia and Kainuu.

Jenni Kinnunen, M.A., Sopranistin, Dichterin, Essayistin und Regisseurin ist Gründerin der Nördlichen Oper-Gesellschaft.
Frau Kinnunen studierte Literatur, Kunstgeschichte und Film an der Universität Oulu. Sie hat zum Abschluss ihres Studiums an der Uni 2010 und an der Hochschule für Kultur und Medien 2014 gelangen. Sie hat Lyrik und Librettos für mehrere Komponisten geschrieben und ihre Artikel sind regelmäßig in der Zeitung Kaleva, die größte Zeitung des Nordfinnlands, veröffentlicht. Zur Zeit ist Frau Kinnunen freiberufliche Artistin.
Frau Kinnunen hat Stipendien von dem Zentrum für Kunstförderung Finnland, Sibelius Fonds, Österbotten Fonds der Finnischen Kultur-Stiftung und dem Kulturrad des Österbottens und Kainuus erhalten.
