Jenni Kinnunen is the artistic director and the founder of the Northern Opera Company.
After studying Literature, Art History, Film Studies and Vocal Music, Jenni Kinnunen has worked with text, music, sound and multiple materials while deconstructing and questioning both her and the audiendence’s concepts of opera. Her art has been performed in Iceland, Denmark, USA, Germany and Austria.
Jenni Kinnunen has written lyrics and librettos for several composers, and she has been the artistic director and creative producer for multidiscplinary dramaturgies, site-specific environmental art projects, experimental films, performance galleries and multidiscplinary monologues. Her style invites extensity, dialogue between the high and the low, and sensitive transgression. She has been the essayist for the Northern Finland’s most widely circulated newspaper Kaleva (2011–2018) and culture magazine Kaltio (2023–).
During her career Jenni Kinnunen has received grants from the Arts Promotion Centre Finland, the Sibelius Fund, the Finnish Cultural Foundation, and the Arts Council of Northern Ostrobothnia and Kainuu.
